About

The ski areas of Bláfjöll and Skálafell are both only 25 minutes away from the city. Bláfjöll is south-west of the city and Skálafell east of the city. Both areas have great ski slopes for downhill skiing and snowboarding as well as tracks for cross-country skiing. There is no need to order ski equipment in advance. It is not known exactly when we can open the ski areas, it depends a lot on if there is enough snow in the mountain. In recent years it has been possible to open a few days in December but almost certainly from beginning of January.

Bláfjöll has 14 lifts. Skálafell has 4 lifts.

Skálafell will be closed for the winter season of 24/25.

Ski school

The ski and snowboard lessons start in January.

We have operated ski school (ages 5-12 years old) here in the Bláfjöll Ski Resort for several years and it has performed very well. It runs only on weekends and costs 6,200 kr per person with a 500 kr discount for siblings. It takes 2 hours. Private lessons can also be booked for both weekends and weekdays with advance notice. Prices can be seen on the chart to the right. You can book lessons by sending an e-mail to skolinn@skidasvaedi.is

It is possible to book private lessons in Bláfjöll ski area, both for skis and snowboards.

Lessons are available on weekdays during opening hours(2pm-9pm) and after our ski school finishes on weekends(3pm-5pm). Bookings are received through e-mail skolinn@skidasvaedi.is where you specify which date and at what time you’d like the lesson, along with your name and phone number. Please note that due to unpredictable Icelandic weather lessons can be cancelled and rescheduled with short notice.
