Bláfjöll has a state-of-the-art snow production system. The system was installed in summer 2023 by Technoalpin, the world’s leading manufacturer of snow systems. The system consists of a water reservoir with pumping capability, underground piping, and outlets for connecting snow guns.

Snow can be produced for the entire beginner’s area at Bláfjallaskáli, the North Route up to the King, and the King’s Ravine.

Important notice for backcountry skiers: When snow production is in progress at Bláfjöll, the area is closed, just as when grooming machines are operating on the slopes. The snow production system is located on the North Route, King’s Ravine, and the children’s slopes at Bláfjallaskáli. This is done partly to protect expensive snow-making equipment, as we have already seen people skiing over high-pressure hoses, data and power cables this winter. Bláfjöll is vast, and production only occurs in a small area for a short time, so this should not impact anyone’s experience. Let’s work together so we can open the ski area earlier.
